On December 20, 2016 Scott suffered a sudden cardiac arrest near Victoria General Hospital. The emergency response team that included BCAS dispatch, an off-duty police officer, members of the View Royal Fire Department, paramedics Andrew Britton and Greg Stubbs, duty supervisor Tyrone Trotter as well as Desveaux and Sekhon worked together to help care for Scott.
"Through the valiant efforts of all those involved, working as a team for a common goal, this gentleman will go on to live a long and productive life," said Victoria District Manager Brad Cameron. "This is a great example of the 'chain of survival' being successfully implemented."
Less than a month later, Scott visited the fire hall with his wife to meet some of his rescuers and personally thank them for helping save his life. Desveaux and Sekhon represented the entire BCAS team that helped care for Scott at the impromptu gathering.
"It's a miraculous thing, to see a man very close to dying and be able to bring him back. That's why we do this job, to help save lives," Sekhon said. "Then to meet that same man again almost a month later and he's healthy and telling you about his family and his future plans? That's something that we'll carry with us for a long time."
