Without the quick recognition and response by his teammates, Mr.Thien would not be alive today,” said Rob Boorman, Administrative Unit Chief for the Central District, BCAS. “By working as a team, they were able to determine the severity of the event and provide quick first aid assistance which was critical to him.”

On April 9, 2010, during a weekly ‘old timer’ hockey practice at Cliff McNabb Arena, Harvey Thien collapsed on the bench. Teammate and retired Fire Captain Ted Greves checked his pulse but found nothing and knew he had to act quickly. With the help of his teammates, he immediately placed Thien on the bench and started CPR.
