Learn about the qualifications needed to become an emergency medical call-taker (EMCT) with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).
To continue in the BCHES hiring process, emergency medical call-takers must have the following before their hire date:
- A current and valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR-C) certificate or higher
You must also meet these requirements:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Ability to type 40 words per minute
- Minimum age of 19
- Legal eligibility to work full-time in Canada
- Strong knowledge of British Columbia geography
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check, medical exam and audiology (hearing) assessment before hire
- Availability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and statutory holidays
- We give preference to applicants with valid MPDS (Medical Priority Dispatch System) certification, but this is not required to apply
