ACP Qualifications

​Licences and certificates

To work as an advanced care paramedics (ACP) with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), you must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a valid advanced care paramedic licence from the Emergency Medical Licensing Board
  • Have a class 1, 2 or 4 BC driver's licence (or and equivalent from another province), or be able to get one within 6 months of your start date
  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Be legally allowed to work in Canada
  • Be available to work a variety of shifts, as needed
  • Be medically fit and able to pass a criminal record check
  • Have experience responding to high-acuity calls in a high-volume area
  • Show strong leadership skills
  • Work well with others and be recognized as a team player by other health care professionals
