When you receive care, treatment and services from BC Emergency Health Services – including the BC Ambulance Service and BC Patient Transfer Services – we collect personal information about you.
BCEHS collects this information directly from you or, when needed, from others. This begins with the first contact with dispatch and continues through the care you receive or any patient transfer. As allowed under sections 26(c) and 26 (e) of the
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), this includes recording all 911 and non-emergency phone calls.
We collect, use and share your personal information to:
- Provide care and support
- Plan, maintain and improve our services
- Ensure the quality and safety of care
- Support education and staff training
- Carry out research, with consent or where allowed by law
- Confirm eligibility for benefits and services and manage billing
- Support health care funding and system planning
- Confirm your identity (for example, with the Ministry of Health)
- Meet legal requirements, such as court orders or reporting some conditions, as allowed under FIPPA
