BCEHS ground ambulances are built and equipped to help our highly trained paramedics provide emergency care and transport patients safely.
Paramedics use two main types of ambulances to respond to most patients:
- Basic life support (BLS)
- Advanced life support (ALS).
When a patient needs more advanced care, primary care paramedics (PCPs) can work with advanced care paramedics (ACPs). ALS ambulances have ACPs on board. These paramedics complete extra training so they can perform more advanced emergency care procedures before reaching the hospital.
BCEHS also operates specially designed ground ambulances for:
- Critical care transport
- Infant transport teams
- Low-acuity (non-urgent) transfers between facilities
- Emergency management units for large-scale emergencies
We manage and maintain our ambulance fleet to keep it safe, reliable and efficient for patients, paramedics and the public.
