The Youth Observation program targets young adults who have shown a keen interest in healthcare, specifically in paramedicine.
Many BCEHS paramedics start their careers in community-based groups.
We have developed a pathway nurtures young adults’ interest in health care, and strengthens our efforts to recruit and retain staff. This program offers several benefits and opportunities to engage and support young adults in becoming health care professionals.
Inclusive opportunities: This pathway can be adapted for use in several organizations, including:
- The High School Emergency First Responder Program
- Scouts Canada’s ‘Med-Vent’ program
- Lifeguard organizations
A consistent and fair approach means we can support many future paramedics each year.
This program provides a structured, progressive pathway for members of the organizations listed above, and other future partner organizations. It’s an investment in our workforce. The program aims to instil a passion for paramedicine in teenagers and young adults, and attract them to a career with BCEHS.
