Primary Care Paramedic Qualifications

​Licences and certificates

To qualify for a primary care paramedics (PCP) position with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), you must have the following licences and certificates:​

  • A valid primary care paramedic licence issued by the Emergency Medical Licensing Board
  • A Class 1, 2 or 4 BC driver's licence, or an out-of-province equivalent (or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of your start date)
  • A current driver's abstract that shows a safe driving record
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid work permit for Canada, or the ability to obtain one
  • Be 19 years of age or older
  • Be able to work a variety of shifts, as required
  • Show strong mental resiliency and maturity, and work well in fast-paced, changing environments
