IEMCT Qualifications

Learn about the qualifications needed to become an Interfacilities Emergency Medical Call Taker (IEMCT) with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).
​Education and certificates
An Interfacilities Emergency Medical Call Takers (IEMCT)​ must have the following certificates on their first day of work with the BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS):
  • Graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk or Medical Office Assistant program
  • Successful completion of a medical terminology course
  • A combination of education and experience will also be considered
Other pre-requisites you have and will bring to this role:
  • You are of good character
  • You are at least 19 years of age
  • You have a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • You are legally entitled to work full-time in Canada
  • You have flexibility to work a variety of extended shifts (up to 12 hours), including nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, as required
  • You are able to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check upon hire
