IEMCT Qualifications

Learn about the qualifications needed to become an inter-facilities emergency medical call-taker (IEMCT) with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).

​​Education and certificates

An inter-facilities emergency medical call-taker (IEMCT)​ must have the following certificates on their first day of work with the BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS):
  • Graduation from a recognized nursing unit clerk or medical office assistant program
  • Successful completion of a medical terminology course
  • We will also consider a combination of education and experience

Other prerequisites you have and will bring to this role:

  • Good character
  • At least 19 years of age
  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Legally entitled to work full-time in Canada
  • Flexibility to work a variety of extended shifts (up to 12 hours), including nights, weekends and statutory holidays, as required
  • Able to successfully complete a Criminal Record Check upon hire
