IEMCT Qualifications

Learn about the requirements to become an inter-facility emergency medical call-taker (IEMCT) with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS).

​​Education and certificates

To start work as an IEMCT​ with BCEHS, you must have:
  • Graduated from a recognized nursing unit clerk or medical office assistant program
  • Completed a medical terminology course

BCEHS may also consider a combination of relevant education and experience.

Other requirements

You must also:

  • Show good character
  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Have a grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Be legally allowed to work full-time in Canada
  • Be available to work a variety of shifts, including up to 12 hours, nights, weekends and statutory holidays
  • Be able to pass a criminal record check
