Learn about the qualifications needed to work as an emergency medical responder with BC Emergency Health Services.
To work as an emergency medical responder (EMR) with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), you must have the following:
- A valid emergency medical responder licence from the Emergency Medical Licensing Board
- A class 1, 2 or 4 BC driver's licence (or an equivalent from another province), or be able to get one within 6 months of your start date
- Class 5 or equivalent is required at time of application
- A current driver's abstract that shows a safe driving record
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- A valid work permit for Canada, or the ability to get one
- You must be 19 years or older
- Ability to work different shifts, including evenings, nights and weekends
- Strong mental resilience and maturity, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, changing environment
