Fundraising for the annual Cops for Cancer cycling tours is heating up over the summer months and BC Ambulance Service paramedics are on a roll coordinating community activities and raising money for these special September events.
The 2012 Cops for Cancer Tours are celebrating 15 years of engaging law enforcement and emergency services in support of the research and treatment of childhood cancers. Since the Tours began on Vancouver Island in 1998, these community-based events have grown to include tours of Northern BC, Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
This year, BC Ambulance Service is involved in the Tour de North, the Tour de Coast and the Tour de Rock. We are a Gold Sponsor providing emergency ambulance and medical services along each route. Our paramedics also have the opportunity to cycle in the Tour de North and the Tour de Coast traveling hundreds of kilometres from start to finish over a period of seven to ten days.
Whether they are on the road staffing an ambulance or cycling with the Cops for Cancer teams, our paramedics are going the distance to reach this year’s goal of donating $2.4 million to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Tour de Coast Fundraisers
On June 13, 2012, Paramedic Bob Lee organized a very successful ‘Jail and Bail’ event. The Cops for Cancer team raised over $15,000.00. On June 15, 2012, the team followed up with a pole-sitting and barbecue event that brought in about $7,500.00.
